  • Contact discharging physician
  • Ascertain reason for transport
  • Establish transport date
  • Contact accepting facility
  • Recap current condition
  • Determine life support needs
  • Identify payer (insurance, patient/patient advocate, or facility)

  • Secure air ambulance estimates
  • Verify entity is an operator
  • Verify personnel qualification
  • Verify insurance coverage
  • Provide transport parameters
  • Verify certifications (FAA Part 135 certificate, industry associations)
  • Get estimate w/ detail of services 
    (AIRCRAFT type, IS IT BED-TO-BED, ETC.)
    All of the above are best verified in writing

  • Secure an itinerary from the operator
  • Coordinate with the floor
  • Verify pick up time
  • Verify transport/discharge orders
  • Verify with receiving facility
  • Review details with passenger(s) going along
  • Update receiving facility on patient condition
  • Review timeline with patient and advocates
